NIFT conducts its own entrance exam, which is mandatory for admission to its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The entrance exam evaluates candidates' aptitude for design, creativity, and general knowledge. The selection process also includes a situation test and a group discussion/personal interview, depending on the program.
Written Test: This is the first stage of the entrance exam, which is usually conducted in January. The written test comprises multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and is divided into two parts.
Part A: This section tests the candidates' general knowledge, analytical ability, and communication skills. It comprises MCQs on topics like current affairs, English comprehension, quantitative ability, logical reasoning, and data interpretation.
Part B: This section evaluates the candidates' domain knowledge and aptitude for the design program they are applying for. The questions in this section are designed to test the candidates' creativity, observation skills, and design aptitude.
Situation Test: This is the second stage of the entrance exam, which is conducted for candidates who have cleared the written test. The situation test evaluates the candidates' ability to handle materials and their creativity. The test usually takes place in April or May, and candidates are given a set of materials to create a three-dimensional model of a design concept.
The final selection of candidates is based on their performance in both the written test and the situation test. Shortlisted candidates are then called for a counseling session, where they can choose their preferred campus and program based on their ranks and availability of seats.
